I really wanted to love this book. There are tons of books on selling out there, and I have bought and read more than a dozen or so in my 15+ years as a salesperson of highline automobiles. The premise of the book is sound, selling cars is just putting people and cars together.But there's more to it than that, and the book oversimplifies the psychology of selling by breaking it down into a series of actions to be taken. Another beef with this book is that it's overly written in the first person. Yes, anecdotes are a good method for bringing a point home, but there are stories from the author's career on every page. It slows the message down, and makes the book thicker than it needs to be. It's good sales meeting stuff, but how practical each story is is questionable.This is a very basic car selling book for the absolute newbie. Seasoned professionals won't find much here they don't already use on a daily basis. And those working with high net worth individuals know they require special care.I wish this book contained more information about the modern buyer, as some of this information seems somewhat outdated. But it's a solid book of solid information, if you have no access to auto sales training from other sources.
I have been in the business for over 4 years, I have been down for a year due to an accident so I decided to check this out to refresh my mind on the whole car selling process for when I get back on my feet...my first reading was straight through! All the steps & concepts are workable and very useful. The car business can be a wonderful place to be, I'm under 25 & have made as much as $12K in one month, not bad for someone with only an Associates Degree, eh?This book takes you through all the steps needed to effectively close a sale and focuses on a mistake most newbies make; rushing through the sale! Mr. Ziegler states that you should never skip a step just so you can have the customer in & out, sure you may get the customer to buy 20 minutes after shaking hands with him occasionally, but think back on the customers you rushed into your office only to have them back out of the deal! I have made that mistake as well and just chalked it up to a flaky Mr. Customer...NOT SO! It was my fault for trying to rush the sale and skipping steps.That is only one of the lessons you will learn reading this book, follow these steps presented and use the advice given and I promise you will do very well.This book will teach you an effective systematic approach to selling an Automobile from start to finish, never be confused again by not knowing what needs to be done from you! You will now be able to take control of your customer as well as take control of your income!Good luck & happy reading, you won't be disappointed in this book!Rob
I read this book over 2 years ago, before I ever stepped foot into my first dealership for my first interview. I've got to say, this book made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world. Of course it's not the only thing that has made me successful, but it helped me jump-start my career in the car sales industry. I've been selling cars for over 2 years now, consistently 1st or 2nd place every single month. Every new car salesman I run into I recommend this book - it's the biggest investment you can make into your own future if you're considering a future in car sales. I'm not sure if experienced salespeople would benefit, but green-peas definately can. A must read for all new-hires.
This book was written mainly for the inexperienced car salesman, but it also an excellent tool for the buyer who wants to learn all the sneaky, sleazy techniques the pros use to manipulate you. This knowledge allows you to avoid getting getting caught up in the hype and make a rational buying decision. "Money is Power" (says so right in the book) - YOU have the money, and THEY want it. Being aware of how will try to get it from you can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars on your next vehicle purchase. Very much worth the price - consider it a wise investment.
Ziegler certainly gives an inside look into the business, but for me, having been to two Joe Verde seminars, it came as nothing new. For someone new to the business, I'd certainly recommened it. For someone with several years in the business, it'd still be a very good refresher course. It's all too easy to get into a "rut", and this book can help you see where your mistakes are possibly being made, so that you can correct them. It would also be a good read for a car buyer, as it would give them a lot of insight into how SOME dealerships conduct business.
If you’re in sales, you need to read!
This really isn't a book, however. It's a collection of wisdom that will enable the reader to evolve as a car salesman the way that the author did and be in a position to take care of his family. How, you ask? By closing more deals, which leads to making more money. I am a car salesman. One thing is true, no matter where you go. Other salesmen will not help you. They will not share with you what they know, or how they acquire the knowledge and skills they have. There is this flawed belief they have, caused by low self-esteem and a lack of confidence, that if they tell you, they will suffer. This belief is not correct and Anthony Ziegler knows that. Otherwise he would've written a different book, a less effective book. If you do not want to make more money selling cars, do not buy this book. However, if you are like me, that is goal-oriented and committed to self-improvement, you owe it to yourself to buy this book.
