I’ve read Rick’s books almost from the time he first started publishing them. He always tells his readers to rip them apart and carry only the parts you need. With the Kindle editions of his travel guides, you always have the entire book on your phone or tablet - the perfect solution for the traveler seeking to minimize his or her accoutrements while on the go. The Kindle format also provides ready access over a lunch hour to learn even more about a particular activity or locale during the planning stage. Highly recommend Rick’s travel guides - particularly the Kindle editions - for novice or experienced travelers. No other guides provide such detailed information about the sights and activities that are the reason we travel - opening times, costs, directions/transit information and maps of cities, museums and suggested itineraries. I always take along Rick’s specific country or region guide when I travel. Highly recommend!
Pretty disappointed with this book. I bought it specifically because, while I’m pretty familiar with central & southern Germany, northern Germany is new to me. There is VERY little about northern Germany in this book. The enclosed map doesn’t even include the northern most parts of Germany, but it does have Switzerland... I didn’t buy a Switzerland book. I bought a Germany book so the map and book better darn well cover all of Germany. For instance, Rostock, a very popular tourist destination on the Baltic coast is not even mentioned in the book, nor is it on the map. There is a chapter on Salzburg (Austria) though. How about you cover all of Germany in the Germany book, and then if you find extra room, then add other countries?! I normally LOVE Rick Steves but this seems like a glaring oversight.
If I had known that Rick Steves guide would not cover all of Germany I would not have purchased it. We are going to Southwest Germany - no information about historic cities in this area at all. I have used his guides in the past but any so grateful that I purchase the Michelin Guide of Germany.
Always been happy with Rick's recommendations for hotels and restaurants. Arrivals by plane or train into all cities covered in his books are made easy with detailed directions to city center and his listed hotels. We like that he lists sights in order of don't miss to see if you have time.
Rick’s books highlight everything you need to know and do on a European trip. I love his walks. I feel like I always get the most out of my trips with his guidance.
We are planning a trip to Germany this year. Needed information on what to see, where to stay and eat and information about transportation. Watch Rick Steves on TV and enjoyed his program and thought his book would be helpful. Haven't gone yet but the book is helpful during our planning on the trip.
My brother and our wives are planning a two to three week tour of France and Gemany and Rick's tour books helped us quickly prioritize what cities we should visit, what we should see and in what order. They have been a priceless resource for us.
