About the Author
Little Pim was created by Julia Pimsleur Levine, a mom who grew up bilingual and was looking for fun ways to introduce her young son to the French language. When she discovered there were no high-quality videos or DVDs for teaching toddlers a foreign language, she decided to create them herself—something for which she was uniquely qualified as a filmmaker, language teacher, and mother. Nice book but no pronounce guide. I don't know french and was hopping to learn with my son. Book is cute but hard to know how to pronounce words
I purchased this book as a learning tool for my 1 year old son along with the dvd set. The dvd set is extra ordinary, but I can't say the same about the book. It is lacking. It seems that the manufacturer just came out with the books in order to sell more merchandise. They are extremely simple reads and the pop out tabs are hard to manuver. Don't waste your money on the books and buy more dvds.
Book cover suggests story is in three languages, but that is incredibly deceptive. In fact, the story is entirely in English and just has a few keywords (nouns) in Spanish and French under the flaps. Very frustrating! This is not a great purchase for anyone seeking a story that can be read in any of the three listed languages. For people seeking the same story in English, French, and Spanish in a single book for very young children, instead purchase the two touch-and-feel books by Amélie Graux, ("I Love to Eat" and "I Love to Sleep"). I wish there were more in that series, since truly trilingual story books are apparently very hard to come by.
The Little Pim Book on Feelings is a great way to teach your child about how to read the expressions of people especially as your child gets older and is learning exactly how to put a word to the emotions they are feeling too. There are five feelings covered in the book which are: happy, scared, shy, sad, and surprised. Not only that but your child will get the opportunity to learn each feeling word not just in English but in Spanish and French as well.In this story, children will follow Pim the Panda through out the pages as he feels different ways. On one side of the page is Pim and on the other are three lift or pull out tabs which feature colored photographs of children expressing how they feel. My daughter and son enjoy this book but I've found that my daughter got a little confused between the emotion shy and scared which are closely similar. And my 16 month old son was deeply concerned with a baby girl who was crying in one of the pictures. He kept saying "oh no", and proceeded to kiss the little girls picture so she would feel better. At first I was concerned but overall I think it's healthy to share and talk about our feelings even with a child as young as my son.At the end of the book, there's a review of all the words learned in the multiple languages represented. Reading the line of Little Pim book has prompted me to check out the DVD offerings for my children too.
This is my favorite book for young children. It's so practical, teaching children about feelings, but also incorporating two more languages - Spanish and French - along with English. My niece just loves it! I can't get over how much her mind is able to absorb - she just soaks it up like a sponge! I plan to get her the Little Pim Spanish Backpack for her birthday this year! I know she'll adore it - she already loves Little Pim the Panda. I can't wait to see what she learns!
