There is an old adage that a cookbook is successful if you can find one recipe for the keeping. There are several on hand but a word of warning, If you are looking for the likes of Mario Batali, Thomas Keller or Grant Achatz then look elsewhere. Instead you get simple recipes, each with a small story, that can be fixed in minutes. This is exactly what 99% of us need. In other words, if you spend hours preparing the nightly meal, have loads of exotic ingredients and your kids are quiet, respectful and demand no attention this is not your cookbook. .Prinze's influence are his New Mexico roots and especially his mom's cooking. Numerous recipes reflect her original recipe or that of a relative. Because the ingredients are so sparse, one must use the freshest, best quality available. Some are nothing more than salt, oil and grill while others involve more prep. Again, the key is ease of preparation with a resulting good taste. Lots of great color pictures (food and family) throughout the book.My Grade - A
This book is a gem. FPJ comes off as down to earth and relatable. I loved his dad humor and how much he seems to adore his family.The recipes are easy enough for a beginner, but sophisticated enough that foodies will still enjoy them. My favorite part of the cookbook is how flexible the recipes seem to be. Prinze suggests different options, but let's you know what you can change up to suit your preferences.I know everyone is obsessed with Chrissy Teigen's Cravings, but if you only purchase one, get Back to the Kitchen. I have both and this is the superior cook book.
I bought the book out of curiosity. I'm surprised. I enjoyed the intros to the recipes. The recipes themselves seem very good. There are many bookmarked to try soon. Most ingredients are easily obtained. Simply worded instructions. All in all, enjoyable and good new recipes to try.
I love this Cook Book! Everything I have tried has been a hit. Very enjoyable reading, excellent pictures, and a lot of good information. He gives you 75 recipes, but the information he gives helps you with your own creations or expanding on his. Thank you Freddie!!
Fantastic book! Better than I had anticipated. The colors are vibrant, the pictures are crisp and beautiful, and the stories really help to connect you to the food on a deeper level. Not to mention....very yummy looking food, great recipes!
What a great cook book . The book it self is beautiful, very personal with Freddies story's just a loving family . I am from Albuquerque so I have to same love for green chili . Anyone would love to have this in the home. All kinds of great recipes that are just yummy.
This was on my Christmas wish list after I saw Freddie Prinze on The Chew. Had checked it out from the library for a quick glance and tried a couple of the recipes just to make sure. So pleased when the Kindle price dropped. Now it's in my e-library.
I own/owned at least 8 cook books in my adulthood. Randomly, this is the best one. Every single thing I've cooked has been delicious and simple enough to make.
