What a wonderful book! I've long been interested in Andy Warhol's art and life, and recently ran across this book. I purchased it for my 7 year old daughter, but honestly, I'm enjoying it as well! James Warhola is a "faabbbulous" artist and storyteller. The artwork in the book is so detailed and absolutely a blast to look at...you will find something new that you've never noticed each time you read it! Heartwarming story of an "average" family with a "not-so-average" famous artist as a relative! Visiting Uncle Andy's must have been so much fun, I'm glad James Warhola created this book...it is a treasure. The reading level is perfect for my 7 year old as well.

I am an art teacher at an elementary school and this book went over well with my students. I wanted a solid way to introduce them to Andy Warhol without getting into what the other side of his life was like. This book shows the softer, more family-oriented side of Warhol that isn't often discussed. Was a great way to lead into a pop art project.
although this is intended as a children's book, I bought it for my mother, who is of Ruthenian heritage, and consequently a big Warhol (Warhola) fan. She was already familiar with some of the Warhol family saga, which involved impromptu visits by the extended clan to Uncle Andy's place in NYC. This book describes the happenings and pleasant mayhem which accompanied the visits, as well as Warhol's efforts to encourage his nieces and nephews in visual pursuits. Mom loves it.
James Warhola does it again! His illustrations of cars were so good that I could identify make, model, and year. He got the clothes and styles just right. I felt like I was back in New York City in the 1960's, after take off from the "family compound" back in the Pittsburgh area. After finding out about Andy Warhol's extended family, I'm pleasantly jealous over not belonging to it myself.
I was first attracted to the cover of this book one day while I was in the library with my students. I decided to sit and read it, and as I read each page aloud, I found more and more of my kids gathering around the table. The story is told in a whimsical way, and the pictures are enticing. Couldn't wait to get home and get on Amazon to order both this and Uncle Andy's Cats.
My daughter and I both loved this book. I teach art history so I like to find books about artists. Andy Warhol is a character that appeals to children because of his love for everyday things. Having the story told by an actual member of Andy Warhol's family makes it even better. For children I think it reinforces the idea that art is everywhere and that they can be creative too. The illustrations are perfect and we giggled and laughed through most of the book.
I got this for my wife's birthday as a little extra gift. She actually enjoyed the stories a lot to see a small part of Warhol's world that she knew nothing about. We like kitties a lot too and they are featured prominently in the book.Clearly it's a kids book, but if you know a Warhol fan, give them a cute surprise!
